Plivo uses geo permissions to help curb unexpected costs that may have been caused by fraudsters creating spurious messaging traffic. You can choose to enable or disable SMS traffic to specific countries. We’ll block (and not charge for) any messages sent to countries not in the allowed list.
To manage your account's SMS geo permissions, navigate to SMS > Settings > Geo Permissions in the Plivo console.
As of November 15, 2022, new Plivo customers have geo permissions enabled for only the US and Canada by default. At the same time, for existing customers, we’re removing geo permissions for sending messages to all countries that the customer has not sent any SMS messages to in the last 60 days.
You can change the default permissions at any time from the Plivo console. Changes are immediately enforced for new messages sent using the SMS API or messages queued in our system. Messages to blocked countries will fail with error code 450.
